The Tale of Ivan Tsarevich and the Gray Wolf is a Russian fairy tale collected by a Russian Slavist and ethnographer Alexander Afanasyev. A king's apple tree bore golden apples, but every night, one was stolen. Guards reported that the Firebird stole them. The king told his two oldest sons that the one who caught the bird would receive half his kingdom and be his heir. They drew lots to see who would be first, but both fell asleep; they tried to claim it had not come, but it had stolen an apple. Finally Ivan Tsarevich, the youngest son, asked to try; his father was reluctant because of his youth but consented.

Vasilisa the Beautiful is a Russian fairy tale collected by a Russian poet, writer, editor, ethnographer and translator Alexander Afanasyev. It tells the tale of a beautiful girl named Vasilisa. When her mother dies, she gives her a magic doll. Her father remarries, and she gains an evil stepmother and two stepsisters. Despite the stepmother's attempts to diminish Vasilisa's beauty, she continues to grow more beautiful.

Marya Morevna is a Russian fairy tale collected by Alexander Afanasyev in Narodnye russkie skazki. Marya was a warrior queen who ruled a small kingdom and for some 10 years, kept Koschei the Deathless a captive in her castle's tower. The character Koschei is an evil immortal man who menaces young women with his magic.She fell in love with Ivan Tsarevitch, and while she was away on a campaign, he accidentally released Koschei. The evil wizard then abducted the queen and Ivan Tsarevitch was forced to find some way to kill him. Ivan was successful and was reunited with Marya.

Finist Clear Falcon 's feather is a Russian fairy tale collected by Alexander Afanasyev in Narodnye russkie skazki (1855-1863). The story of a daughter who asks only for a scarlet flower when her father goes to market, instead of the luxuries her two sisters ask for. Two times her father forgets; the third time, he buys a scarlet flower from a mysterious old man as long as the daughter agrees to marry his son, Finist the Falcon. This sets in motion a tale of love, jealousy, and adventure as the two overcome many obstacles to their love.

The Valiant Little Tailor is a fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm, included in the first edition of 1812. It tells the story of a little tailor who kills seven flies at once and imagines himself to be a hero. As a result, thanks to his quick wits, he emerges victorious from any danger and marries the princess, receiving half a kingdom in addition.

A German fairytale, and one of the Brothers Grimm's famous collection, The Goose Girl tells the classic story of a pure-hearted princess and a wicked villain. Unlike many fairy tales, this villain is not an evil stepmother, or a wicked witch, but instead a servant, who sees an opportunity to take the princess' life for her own.

Hans in Luck is a German folk tale recorded by the Brothers Grimm and published in Grimm's Fairy Tales 1812. In Hans in Luck, filled with humorous twists and turns, Hans trades one possession for another, each time thinking he's bettering his situation. The story follows him as he sets out from his master's after completing seven years of service. Initially receiving a lump of gold as wages, he ends up with nothing but a simple whetstone through a series of trades. The tale serves as a cautionary yet lighthearted reminder to cherish the simple joys in life and to be content with what one has.

The Golden Bird is a fairy tale collected by the Brothers Grimm about a prince's quest to obtain a beautiful golden bird, facing trials and tribulations along the way.

Hansel and Gretel is a German fairy tale collected by the Brothers Grimm and published in 1812 as part of Grimms' Fairy Tales. The story is about two siblings, Hansel and Gretel, who are abandoned in the forest by their parents after their stepmother convinces their father to leave them in the woods because of famine. On their first attempt, they are able to find their way back home using a trail of pebbles. However, they fail the second time when they used a trail of breadcrumbs because they were all eaten by animals. Hansel and Gretel encounter a gingerbread house made of candies and sweets.
