The Nature of Things was written in the 1st century BC by Roman polymath Lucretius. It is written as a didactic poem, and explains Epicurean physics.

Sokrates (etwa 470 v. Chr. - 399), eine der wirkmächtigsten Gestalten der Philosophiegeschichte, steht zugleich für eine Zeitenwende des menschlichen Geistes. Vor allem in der Form des Gesprächs, auf einem immer fragenden Auf-dem-Wege-sein-des-Denkens, überwindet Sokrates die Skepsis der Sophisten.

En Apología de Sócrates, Platón da una versión del discurso que Sócrates pronunció como defensa, ante los tribunales atenienses, en el juicio en el que se le acusó de corromper a la juventud y no creer en los dioses de la polis. Aunque su datación exacta es incierta, el texto, por su temática, pertenece al ciclo platónico de las primeras obras llamadas Socráticas, que Platón escribió en su juventud, e incluso se piensa que es su primera obra. ​La Apología se divide en tres partes.

Meno is a Socratic dialogue written by Plato. In it, the two characters, Meno and Socrates, discuss "arete", or virtue. This dialogue is also famous for introducing "Meno's Paradox".

Von Heraklits Werk sind keine Originaltexte überliefert. Zur Verfügung stehen allein Bruchstücke. Problematisch ist, dass diese Bruchstücke aus den Werken diverser anderer antiker Autoren entnommen sind. Häufig sind es indirekte Zitate des Typs "Heraklit sagt,...". Nur selten finden sich direkte Zitate. Problematisch ist zudem, dass in der Fachliteratur bis heute umstritten ist, welche Fragmente authentisch sind. Die Authentizität von 1 bis 3 Dutzend Fragmenten ist umstritten.

The Phaedrus by Plato, is a dialogue between Plato's protagonist, Socrates, and Phaedrus, an interlocutor in several dialogues. It was probably written around 370 BC, at about the same time as Plato's Republic and Symposium. Ostensibly about love, the discussion in the dialogue focuses on the art of rhetoric and how it ought to be practiced. The dialogue appears in the direct words of Socrates and Phaedrus, without an introduction.

The book is an attack on what Nietzsche considered the "slave morality" and apathy of Western Christianity. Nietzsche argues that Christianity poisons western culture and perverts the words of and practice of Jesus.

The City of the Sun, published in Italian in 1602 as La città del sole, is a philosophical work by the Dominican philosopher Tommaso Campanella. It is an important utopian work, was inspired by Plato's Republic, and describes a theocratic society where goods, women, and children are held in common.
