Meditations is a series of personal writings by Marcus Aurelius, Roman Emperor from AD 161 to 180, recording his private notes to himself and ideas on Stoic philosophy. Marcus Aurelius wrote the 12 books of the Meditations in Koine, Greece as a source for his own guidance and self-improvement.

More than 2,000 years ago, Aristotle said: "let there be a law that no deformed child shall live." This idea is alive and well today. In Changing How We Choose, David Redish makes a bold claim: science has "cracked" the problem of morality. Redish argues that moral questions have a scientific basis, and that morality is best viewed as a technology—a set of social and institutional forces that create communities and drive cooperation. This means that some moral structures are better than others and that the moral technologies we use have real consequences on whether we make our societies better or worse places for the people living within them.

A) In Platons Höhlengleichnis wird ein Lebewesen die gesamte Dauer seiner Existenz in einer Höhle gehalten ohne jeglichen Kontakt zur Außenwelt. Diese Höhle stellt demnach alles dar, was dieses Geschöpf von der Welt kennt und wenn man nun eine große Öffnung in diese Höhle schlagen würde, damit dieses Wesen einen Blick auf die Dinge werfen könnte, welche sich außerhalb seiner bekannten Welt befinden, dann würde es wahrscheinlich an dem Schock sterben.

Cicerón escribió en el año 44 a.C., a petición de su amigo Ático, este tratado filosófico sobre la amistad, en el que se pregunta por las relaciones entre los seres humanos y el sentido de la vida. Cicerón trata sobre el papel de la amistad en las relaciones sociales y en la vida política, con numerosos ejemplos de la historia de Roma. Por boca de Lelio, Cicerón intenta separar la amistad del concepto de utilitas, con el que siempre había estado unido, y razona sobre su naturaleza y sobre las normas de comportamiento que deben regularla.

"Es precisamente esa otra consolación ante la vejez […] lo que me mueve a mí […] a dirigirte ahora esta larga misiva desde Atenas. […]. Tú has dejado claro en tu obra, al hablarnos de que las dificultades de la vejez no provienen tanto de la edad como del carácter y de la actitud vital de las personas, que envejecer es, en un alto grado, un empeño ético; y yo deseo ahora que reflexionemos sobre si el hecho de que nuestra sociedad esté o no organizada y facultada para posibilitar dicho empeño no hace del envejecer, también, un propósito político".

Att vara klok är inte alltid så lätt, det kan nog de flesta hålla med om. Och många gånger är det du själv som sätter upp hinder genom att "tänka fel” eller tro att du inte klarar av någonting. In der Platon-Forschung hat der Menexenos immer wieder für Rätselraten gesorgt. Die Ungereimtheiten dieses Dialogs ließen die einen vermuten, es handele sich gar nicht um einen Dialog Platons, andere wiederum sahen gerade in dem bis zum Äußersten getriebenen Vexierspiel, der diesem Dialog eigen ist, Platons stilistische Meisterschaft. Heute stellt niemand mehr die Frage, ob der Dialog Platon zugerechnet werden kann. Im Werk des Philosophen rechnet man ihn zu den Frühdialogen. Anders als viele andere platonische Dialoge ist der Menexenos nicht philosophischen Inhalts.
