Resultaterne har haft stor betydning for tandlægevidenskaben, men det havde også store konsekvenser for de involverede.

TUSKEGEE-EKSPERIMENTET handler om, da det amerikanske sundhedsvæsens afdeling for kønssygdomme i 1930'erne får en idé til et behandlingsprogram for syfilis. Ideen om behandlingsprogrammet udvikler sig dog hurtigt i en helt anden foruroligende retning og bliver til et omfattende videnskabeligt eksperiment. Over de næste fire årtier deltager 600 personer i studiet. Alle deltagere i studiet er fattige afroamerikanske mænd fra den lille by Tuskegee i Alabama, USA, hvoraf omkring to-tredjedele har kønssygdommen syfilis.

KVINDERNE PÅ SPROGØ handler om et politisk eksperiment, der strækker sig over årene 1923 til 1961. På den lille ø Sprogø i Storebælt placerer man, hvad man kalder ‘moralsk åndssvage’ kvinder - dvs. kvinder, der vurderes som svagt begavede og kvinder, der opfører sig ‘letfærdigt og løsagtigt’. Herude omgivet og indespærret af kilometervis af åbent hav vil man genopdrage kvinderne. Her er man sikker på, at de ikke får børn. Børn, man frygter vil ligge samfundet økonomisk til last og undergrave befolkningens arvemasse med deres dårlige gener.

DR. SHOCK OG AVERSIONSPROJEKTET handler om den canadiske psykiater Aubrey Levin, som i 1970'erne og 1980'erne forsøgte at "kurere" homoseksuelle mænd og kvinder i den Sydafrikanske hær. Dette skete med voldsomme og krænkende metoder, blandt andet ved at give dem elektrisk stød og mod deres vilje udsætte dem for kønsskifteoperationer. Videnskaben har altid eksperimenteret på mennesker, og resultaterne har haft stor betydning for meget af det, vi i dag ved om menneskekroppen og sindet.
