Man schreibt nicht so ausführlich, wenn man den Abschied gibt.” Heinrich Heine, 1797 in Düsseldorf geboren, gest. 1856 in Paris, wo er seit 1831 lebte; einer der Hauptvertreter des Jungen Deutschland. In spätromantischen Gedichten verbindet er Empfindungsreichtum mit Skepsis und Ironie („Buch der Lieder“ 1827; „Romanzero“ 1851). Sein geistvoller und plaudernder Prosastil („Reisebilder“ 1826 bis 1831) machte ihn zum Begründer des modernen Feuilletonismus.

„Lyrisches Intermezzo“ entstand 1821-22: Der Zyklus hat eine Art Handlung, die vom Mai bis in den Winter reicht. Thematisch umkreisen die Gedichte euphorische Liebesgefühle und enttäuschte Liebeshoffnungen Der Ton ist volksliedhaft leicht, der Wortschatz bewusst einfach, mit gehäuften Diminutiven (Verkleinerungsformen, Verniedlichungen). Gleichzeitig ist ein ironisch-distanzierter Umgang mit den verbrauchten Bildern und Gefühlen der romantischen Liebesweh-Poesie erkennbar.

Romanzen II... diese Ausgabe kann ich dem überrheinischen Publikum nicht zuschicken, ohne sie mit freundlichsten Grüßen in ehrlichster Prosa zu begleiten. Ich weiß nicht, welches wunderliche Gefühl mich davon abhält, dergleichen Vorworte, wie es bei Gedichtsammlungen üblich ist, in schönen Rhythmen zu versifizieren. Seit einiger Zeit sträubt sich etwas in mir gegen alle gebundene Rede, und wie ich höre, regt sich bei manchen Zeitgenossen eine ähnliche Abneigung. Es will mich bedünken, als sei in schönen Versen allzu viel gelogen worden, und die Wahrheit scheue sich, in metrischen Gewanden zu erscheinen. – Heinrich Heine.
