Mark Twain begibt sich auf Weltreise und uns wird das Vergnügen gewährt, mitkommen zu dürfen. Wir erfahren, dass Gesundheit moralischer Laster bedarf und zu viel Gesundheit in den Abgrund führt, machen die Bekanntschaft eines asiatischen Gedächtnis-Genies und dass nicht jede Geschichte ein Ende bedarf.

Die tollen Männer – das ist eine Gesteinsformation an der Küste einer unwirtlichen schottischen Insel, die eine tödliche Gefahr für vorüberfahrende Schiffe darstellt. Eines Tages liegt ein Segelboot zerborsten am Strand – und die eher ärmliche Behausung des Onkels des Erzählers ist auf einmal vollgestopft mit allerhand wertvollen Gegenständen. Woher diese kommen, ist klar – aber wer liegt in dem frischen Grab nahe beim Wrack? Hat sich der Onkel eines kapitalen Verbrechens schuldig gemacht?

Einer von ihnen, Marlow, erzählt, wie er sein erstes Kommando als zweiter Offizier auf einem Kohlenfrachter nach Bangkok erhielt. Von Anfang an steht die Reise unter keinem guten Stern; zahlreiche Zwischenfälle verhindern das Auslaufen. Endlich auf hoher See, wird bald ein merkwürdiger Geruch spürbar – und eine Rauchfahne, die aus dem Kohlenbunker aufsteigt. Bald brennt die Ladung lichterloh – und Marlow erlebt das größte Abenteuer seiner Jugend.

En 1858, à l'extrême sud de l'Argentine, la navigation présente des dangers très importants. Le gouvernement décide de faire construire un phare sur l'île des états afin d'assurer une entière sécurité aux navires qui traversent ces parages. 3 gardiens sont chargés d'assurer le fonctionnement du phare pendant une période de 3 mois. Ces 3 hommes sont isolés sur cette côte inhospitalière et n'ont aucun moyen de communiquer avec l'extérieur.

"Il diavolo e l'abisso" è uno straordinario e appassionante racconto lungo, pubblicato per la prima volta nel 1895 sul numero natalizio del settimanale The Graphic. Il racconto narra dell'avventura finale di un grande piroscafo adoperato per missioni piuttosto dubbie, che cambia continuamente nome. Un giorno, infatti, camuffato da baleniera e battente bandiera britannica, viene intercettato e, infine, braccato da una cannoniera nei mari dell'Indonesia, dove di balene, per l'appunto, non se ne sono mai viste.

Die Fortsetzung von "Alaska Kid“ präsentiert trotz des Titels eher Solo-Abenteuer des zum erfahrenen Goldsucher gereiften Chris Bellew und einige dieser Geschichten wurden im düsteren Mehrteiler "Lockruf des Goldes“ verfilmt. Daneben steht aber auch die (bereits in "Alaska Kid“ erwähnte) Affäre mit dem Eiermonopol, die für den Hörer weitaus spaßiger ist als für die Hauptfiguren selbst.

Il diavolo nella bottiglia è un racconto di Robert Louis Stevenson pubblicato per la prima volta su New York Herald (Febbraio-Marzo 1891) e su Black and White a Londra (Marzo-Aprile 1891). Fu inserito poi, nel 1893, nella raccolta Island Nights' Entertainments (Gli intrattenimenti delle notti sull'isola), edito a Londra da Cassell, con illustrazioni di Gordon Browne e William Hatherell.

In der Nähe des Kap Hoorn am südlichen Ende von Südamerika befindet sich auf der argentinischen Insel Isla de los Estados (Staateninsel) ein Leuchtturm. Dieser wird von einer dreiköpfigen Besatzung betrieben, die im Vierteljahresrhythmus ausgewechselt wird. Tarzan frees a native warrior the apes have caught on being impressed by the man's bravery, angering the rest of the ape tribe. Alienated, he exiles himself to his parents' cabin. Later, frightened by an eclipse in which darkness appears to devour the moon, they summon him back. Tarzan reassures them by shooting arrows at the "devourer", and as the eclipse passes is given credit by the creatures for the rescue.

El mundo perdido es una novela del escritor escocés Arthur Conan Doyle, sobre una expedición a una meseta sudamericana en donde aún sobreviven animales prehistóricos.​ Fue publicada en 1912 e introdujo al conocido personaje del profesor Challenger. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain is an 1876 novel about a young boy growing up along the Mississippi River. It is set in the 1840 in the fictional town of St. Petersburg, inspired by Hannibal, Missouri, where Twain lived as a boy. In the novel, Tom Sawyer has several adventures, often with his friend Huckleberry Finn. Originally a commercial failure, the book ended up being the best selling of any of Twain's works during his lifetime. Although overshadowed by its sequel, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, the book is considered a masterpiece of American literature.

Tarzan vainly attempts to impress on his ape tribe the necessity of maintaining a strict watch against the hazards and perils surrounding them. To drive home the lesson, he dons a lionskin he has taken from Mbonga's village and suddenly appears among them, only to find them more vigilant than he had thought, as they mob him and nearly beat him to death. He is saved only by the courage of his monkey friend Manu, which he had also previously under-rated, who risks all to reveal to Teeka and Taug that the "lion" is actually Tarzan.

Discovering bullet cartridges in his deceased father's cabin, Tarzan takes them with him as curios. Subsequently, Teeka is taken by an ape from another tribe, and Tarzan and Taug join forces to trail the kidnapper and rescue her. When they catch up, they are surrounded by the enemy tribe and nearly overwhelmed, until Teeka throws the cartridges at their foes in an apparently futile effort to help. When some of them hit a rock, they explode, frightening the hostile apes and saving her "rescuers".

Having been unsuccessful hunting, Tarzan robs the native village of some rotten elephant meat, which he eats. Becoming ill from the tainted meal, he has a horrible nightmare, in which he dreams himself menaced by a lion, an eagle, and huge snake with the head of a village native. He is carried off by a giant bird but wakes in the fall from its grasp, finding himself back in the tree where he'd gone to sleep. He realizes the incidents were not real. Subsequently attacked by a gorilla, he assumes that this too is a product of his fevered imagination, until actually wounded and hurt.

As part of his campaign of torment and trickery against the native village, whose members he holds responsible for his ape foster mother's death, Tarzan captures Rabba Kega, the local witch doctor, and puts him in a trap the natives have set to catch a lion. The next day the warriors find they have caught the lion, but it has killed the witch doctor. They take the lion to the village. Tarzan secretly releases it and appears among them dressed in the lionskin he had previously used to trick the apes. Dropping the disguise, he reveals himself and leaves.

Teeka and Taug have a baby (balu, in the ape language), which Teeka names Gazan and will not allow Tarzan near. She changes her mind after Tarzan saves the baby from a leopard.
