This venture into the wild kingdom thrusts Jane into the thickest of demoniacal plots as Tarzan’s nemesis, the dark and swarthy Rokoff and his rat-like lieutenant capture her with the intention of wreaking vengeance on Tarzan. But Tarzan assembles an awesome rescue squad; Mugambi, a giant native from the jungle who becomes the devoted follower and protector of Tarzan; Sheeta, a sleek and powerful black panther longing to apply fang and claw to those who would harm Jane; and the entire tribe of Akut, of the great apes, enraged and eager.

Tom Swift is hired by a film company to invent a new kind of moving picture camera: "small and light with electric power, a regular wizard camera." Follow Tom as he takes it to Africa and India to film action pictures of wild animals, herds of elephants, scenes of native wars, earthquakes, and eruptions of volcanoes. The excitement begins on the sea voyage and continues on to Africa where Tom does his filming from a balloon...

This is the second story in the Tarzan adventure novels. Tarzan has been in England where he has been learning about civilization, his heritage and how he fits into it all as Lord Greystoke. Fate thrusts Tarzan back into the primeval jungle and as he returns to it, his adventures begin with a shipboard altercation. Evil Nickolas Rokoff, the recipient of Tarzan's wrath, swears vengeance and puts a price on Tarzan's head. But Tarzan has greater concerns on his mind as he leaves modern civilization behind to discover a hidden ancient civilization.
