"Gli esordi" è il big-bang dell'universo narrativo di Moresco. Appare qui per la prima volta il personaggio del Gatto, nelle vesti dell'enigmatico, inquietante prefetto del seminario dove vive anche il protagonista e narratore, assieme a tanti altri personaggi che si muovono in un mondo attraversato da una vibrazione luminosa e segreta e da uno sfondamento di piani, di tempi e di spazi che ne svelano una vertiginosa natura mai percepita prima.

"Le storie di questo libro stanno nel perimetro di quattro cantoni: un'età giovane e stretta, di preludio al fuoco; una città flegrea e meridionale; la materia di qualche libro sacro; gli anni di madrevita operaia di uno che nacque in borghesia. Il possedimento minimo per un passante, è stato immenso per chi si è fermato. Esso rinchiude per attrazione un me narrato più che un io narrante, qualche tu femminile scalzo e ben piantato in terra, un noi promessa di frantumi. I pronomi sono frutti che maturano in stagioni diverse.

Ma chi sono questi uomini, chi sono i "demoni"? I demoni sono anzitutto "uomini d'idea", come li definisce Bachtìn, cioè uomini posseduti, tormentati, divorati da un'idea, cioè da una concezione onnicomprensiva, onniesplicativa e onnirisolutiva della realtà, uomini che si credono in possesso della "Verità", ma ognuno dei quali si è costruito una sua "verità" in una forma aberrante, distruttiva, catastrofica.

Ma chi sono questi uomini, chi sono i "demoni"? Come si fa a dimenticare a comando? Com'è possibile perdere per strada la memoria di una storia, se prima non si ha la pazienza di recuperarla passando al setaccio tutto quanto l'ha riempita da venticinque anni a questa parte? È quello che si accinge a fare lo Scrittore, seduto su una sedia all'inizio della Rambla e proprio nessuna voglia di scrivere e di vivere come gli altri. Contraltare di questa sua volontà di oblio programmatico e globale è la figura cicciuta e tracagnotta dell'especialista, un docente universitario "che di sé non ha mai saputo niente di essenziale.

Forse, ci dice l'autore, è proprio nelle cose più semplici della vita che si nasconde la felicità.
