Isabella, or the Pot of Basil is a Romantic narrative poem of 63 stanzas. Written in 1818 and first published in 1820, it is adapted from a story in Giovanni Boccaccio's Decameron. It tells the tragic tale of Isabella and her love for Lorenzo, an employee of her two brothers. John Keats (1795-1821) was one of the foremost English Romantic poets. Despite his early death from tuberculosis at the age of 25 he had a considerable poetic output.

In this haiku love poems audiobook, I am delivering an underlying message that is not only about romance and romantic love, but even more, about the sacred feelings, perceptions and sophisticated moods that deeper love creates, when the partners are very much in love with each other. The audiobook itself is created in such a way, that it sets an almost meditative mood, where you can dwell in its simple message and its wonderful verses. Written in the spiritually-inspired Rumi style, you can easily contemplate this out-of-this-world atmosphere.

Sara Teasdale (1884 -1933) was a lyric poet whose third major work, 1917's Love Songs won both the Columbia Poetry Prize (later the Pulitzer) and the Poetry Society of America Prize in 1918. Her haunting poetry is characterized by clarity, simplicity, the use of classical forms, and romantic subject matter. The themes of Love Songs include love, nature, and death. Parts I and III of Love Songs include some poems from "Helen of Troy and other Poems" (1911) and "Rivers to the Sea" (1915).

"Annabel Lee" tells the story of young love cut short by tragedy. As the speaker (often assumed to be based on Poe himself, whose young wife died shortly before he wrote this poem) discusses his relationship with the now-deceased Annabel Lee, he presents the love between them as pure, eternal, and all-conquering. The love between the speaker and Annabel Lee may have been short-lived, but it remains too powerful to be defeated, even by death. Through describing this intensely idealized love, the poem argues that love is the strongest force on earth.

Remember those biggies we loved in high school English? Well, here they are again performed by award-winning narrator Mike Vendetti. Eliot.

Temptation looms large in love poetry and religious poetry, but over the centuries, poets have described and explored the topic of temptation from a variety of different perspectives, choosing some very unusual metaphors to illustrate the dangers - or the delights - of temptation.
