The Monkey's Paw is the classic American tale that warns listeners to be careful what they wish for. Both a tale of magic and of horror, a family is thrown in shambles after they receive a mysterious gift: a monkey's paw that can grant the user three wishes. However, their greed overcomes them, and they soon learn that what you wish for is not always what you wanted.

W. W. Jacobs was best known for his humorous tales of sailors, often related by his most popular and enduring character: The night-watchman on the wharf in Wapping, recounting the preposterous adventures of his acquaintances Ginger Dick, Sam Small, and Peter Russet. These three characters, pockets full after a long voyage, would take lodgings together determined to enjoy a long spell ashore; but the crafty inhabitants of dockland London would soon relieve them of their funds, assisted by the sailors' own fecklessness and credulity.

William Wymark Jacobs (1863 - 1943) was an English author of short stories and novels. Most of his works were either humorous tales or horror stories. Many of his popular tales are written in the cockney vernacular and are based either on the docks at Wapping, or in the bar of the infamous tavern The Cauliflower. 'A Tiger's Skin' is a tale narrated by the oldest regular at The Cauliflower. It is the story of the Claybury tiger... a beast which had apparently escaped from a travelling circus....

At the deathbed of Ursula, the eldest of three sisters, the dying women declares that she will return from the dead when the time comes to accompany each of her younger siblings into the afterlife. When a mutinous spirit breaks out among the crew of the schooner, the Captain and Mate cannot comprehend the cause. As the sailors one by one refuse to eat the rotting food the Skipper has supplied, he decides to make an example of the cabin boy. The crew come up with an ingenious plan to change the Skipper's mind and release the stocks of fresh meat and butter. They decide to fake the death by suicide of the cabin boy... but things do not turn out quite as they had hoped.
