Holmes is addressing all of the monks in the dining room, and the Abbot asks all his fellow Friars to go to confession, as an attempt to identify the perpetrator.

Inspector Lestrade is asking each and every Friar to take part in an interrogation, led by Inspector Lestrade. Holmes and Watson are only asked to assist. However the questioning does not turn out the way the Inspector expected.
