Alex's Wake is a tale of two parallel journeys undertaken seven decades apart. In the spring of 1939, Alex and Helmut Goldschmidt were two of more than 900 Jewish refugees fleeing Nazi Germany aboard the St. Louis, the saddest ship afloat ( New York Times).

A down on his luck World War II veteran and a young man with Japanese-American heritage find themselves in the heat of battle, all the while locked in an attic.

In the spring of 1933, more than 8,000 Jewish musicians, actors, and other artists were expelled from their positions with German orchestras, opera companies, and theater groups. Later that year, the Jüdische Kulturbund, or Jewish Culture Association, was created to allow Jewish artists to perform for Jewish audiences.

In this episode, a man finds he can "watch" his future and its horrible consequences on his just-repaired TV set. He frantically tries to alter his fate.
