In this tale of a city in the clouds, Adjudicator Anselm Horst will do whatever it takes to keep the floating metropolis of Summerland afloat. But when he descends to the perilous surface in search of answers, he finds himself joined by Clare Voyhent, a fiercely capable survivor with a knack for unraveling mysteries. As they navigate the treacherous landscape, facing assassination attempts and encountering all manner of monsters and men, Anselm and Clare must work together to uncover the truth behind the threats to their city.

Clare made it to the city in the sky, and she's not impressed. The tech is impressive, but it's being woefully underutilized. For a tech wiz like her, it's almost painful to witness. They're having trouble keeping Summerland in the sky, but that's why Anselm dragged Clare up there in the first place. Being the mechanical magician she is, it doesn't take Clare to figure out the obvious. Summerland is broken.

Claire learns that the hard way when she finds herself in the midst of a brutal street-to-street conflict in the city above the clouds. Bitter rivalries make for cruel enemies, and Summerland is about to discover that the biggest threat was never vampires or Weres. Claire will need all of her skill and luck to keep the city above the earth where it belongs. If they can survive the onslaught, their next task will be staging a counterattack. But even the will to survive might not be enough to pull off the alliance needed to assure victory.

Claire's efforts prevented the city from tumbling like an inverted Atlantis, but there's a much bigger world out there. Drawn into a web of intrigue and lies, Claire and company find themselves drawn toward the Vampire Bastions by an old friend. Once there, they find out that it's not just a new town, but a new world, and a strange one at that. This world has got some bite to it!
