It is difficult to find another soldier's story to equal Captain Darrell Watt's in terms of time spent on the field of battle and challenges faced. One of the most studied and written about episodes in US history, the American Civil War remains the subject of cultural and historiographical debate. Talk of impending war is a steady drumbeat throughout North Carolina, though Joetta McBride pays it little heed.
