Amy Hilliard is known as "The Reinvention Specialist," because of her unique combination of experience in senior executive corporate positions and entrepreneurial environments. Skilled in consumer marketing, general and global management, branding, product development, manufacturing operations, sales, retailing and acquisitions from over 30 years in Fortune 500 corporations, legacy entrepreneurial companies, and her own businesses, she's reinvented herself many times. Her executive experience has been with Bloomingdale’s, Gillette, Pillsbury, Burrell Communications (SVP), L’Oréal (SVP), Fashion Fair Cosmetics (President), and as Founder of The Hilliard Group and The ComfortCake Company, makers of "Pound Cake so Good It Feels Like A Hug!" Her teams have built multi-million-dollar brands, and her ComfortCake customers have included United Airlines, Walmart, McDonald’s, and Home Shopping Network. All this from a recipe from her own kitchen! Corporately, Amy broke barriers and became a pioneer of multicultural marketing for over 25 years. While at Gillette, she strategically found that the Personal Care Division was underserving the African American market, leading them to become the first Fortune 500 company to acquire a Black hair care company. The Hilliard Group developed the first multicultural marketing manual and process for IBM, produced first the Diversity Advertorial for Fortune Magazine and worked with clients including PepsiCo, Aetna, HBO, American Express, Pandora Jewelry, Nielsen, and others. Amy's keynote, "The Ten Commandments of Diversity Marketing" has been presented globally, and she has taught marketing at both the undergraduate and Executive levels at Loyola University’s Quinlan School of Business. Now a writer and with a popular blog called "Sizzling After 60", Amy knows how to pivot, and is committed to teaching others how to do it too! She loves to inspire others with innovative ideas based on an entrepreneur’s willingness to risk; uses proven leadership and team building skills to motivate others to move mountains with her and has the ability to build long-standing relationships to make things happen. Michelle Obama endorsed Amy's 10 Pivot Points in her first book, "Tap Into Your Juice" in 2005 and gave her that endorsement for life after she became First Lady. Those 10 Pivot Points are the foundation of her newest book, "Pivot for Success." A native of Detroit (and lover of Motown Music!), Amy is an honors graduate of both Howard University and the Harvard Business School. A proud mother of two young professionals who worked with her in the ComfortCake business, Amy's favorite saying is "As long as I can look up, I can get up". That's why as a single mother with their support, she sold the family home to fund The ComfortCake Company at 48 years old when banks wouldn't give her a loan. Owning your power and living a life with no regrets is what she wanted her children to see first hand. Based in Chicago, Amy is passionate about her community, women's empowerment, entrepreneurship and health/wellness. A woman of faith and dedicated to giving back, Amy served two terms as a Trustee of Howard University, thirteen years on PepsiCo’s Multi-cultural Advisory Board, and was the first African American elected to the board of the National Association of the Specialty Food Trade. Amy currently sits on the LeanIn.org Advisory Board and was personally recruited by Sheryl Sandberg. Lillies are Amy's absolute favorite flower, because consider how they grow; they do not toil or spin. They remind us all not to be anxious about anything. Just be your beautiful self!
