Eliot Cowan (1946–2022) was a visionary healer, teacher, and founder of the Blue Deer Center, home of Plant Spirit Medicine (PSM). His journey began in the 1960s with herbalism and led to mastery in Five Element Acupuncture. Seeking deeper healing, he rediscovered an ancient practice he named Plant Spirit Medicine, later sharing it with the world through his influential book. A shaman in the Wixárika tradition of Mexico, Eliot was known for his deep compassion and ability to help others embrace the spiritual path. His work bridged modern life and indigenous wisdom, always with a focus on healing the human heart. Together with Alison Gayek, Eliot trained PSM healers across the globe. Today, his legacy continues through the Growing Awareness of Nature online course and the in-person Healer Training at the Blue Deer Center—nurturing new generations of healers and deepening humanity’s relationship with the living world.
