Trained in neuroscience and psychiatry, Frank W. Putnam has made important contributions to the identification, treatment, and prevention of child maltreatment and maternal depression. Beginning with landmark studies of dissociative identity disorder (multiple personality) he has traced a developmental process across generations linking early childhood trauma with serious psychological, biological, and life course consequences. The recipient of numerous awards from diverse professional organizations for the impact of his work, Dr. Putnam is Professor of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina and Emeritus Professor of Pediatrics at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. He is currently writing "Something Terrible Happened to These Children: A Memoir of Sorts", illuminating behind-the-scenes issues in the welfare of America’s most vulnerable children.
