Johann Wolfgang Goethe was a colossus of German literature and a true Renaissance man. A novelist, dramatist, poet, humanist, scientist and philosopher, he wrote the first international bestseller, The Sorrows of Young Werther, and his epic masterpiece Faust is one of the most famous and celebrated dramas of all time.

The Sorrows of Young Werther is a loosely based autobiographical novel by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. It was first published in 1774 and is one of the most famous-and infamous-works in the history of literature. Werther, a sensitive young man falls in love with Lotte, a sweet-natured girl he meets while visitng an idyllic German village. Although Lotte is betrothed to Albert, Werther’s infatuation with her torments him to the point of despair and suicide.

Die Art wie hier zwei Große miteinander umgingen  - offen, herzlich, klug und nicht kritiklos  -  demonstriert unübersehbar: Goethe und Schiller vermochten ihr Humanitäts-Ideal nicht nur poetisch darzustellen, sondern auch zu leben. Die Italienische Reise ist ein Reisebericht, in dem Johann Wolfgang von Goethe seinen Italienaufenthalt zwischen September 1786 und Mai 1788 beschreibt. Das zweiteilige Werk basiert auf seinen Reisetagebüchern, entstand jedoch erst wesentlich später, zwischen 1813 und 1817. Neben Dichtung und Wahrheit und Kampagne in Frankreich zählt es zu seinen autobiografischen Schriften.

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe ließ sich in seinen späteren Jahren von der persischen Dichtkunst beflügeln. Besonders angetan war er von Hafis, den er gar seinen „Zwilling im Geiste“ nannte. Dessen anmutige Verse besangen das Leben, die göttlich-spirituelle Hingebung und die Lust der Liebe und des Weines. Dieses Hörbuch stellt ausgewählte Gedichte aus Goethes West-östlichem Divan atmosphärisch ihren Inspirationen aus dem Alten Persien gegenüber. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749 - 1832) war ein deutscher Dichter und Naturforscher. Er gilt als einer der bedeutendsten Schöpfer deutschsprachiger Dichtung. Johann Peter Eckermann (1792 - 1854) war ein deutscher Dichter, Schriftsteller und enger Vertrauter Goethes. Der greise Goethe setzte Eckermann gegen eine Gewinnbeteiligung testamentarisch zum Hauptherausgeber seines literarischen Nachlasses ein. Daraus resultierten fünfzehn Nachlassbände, die Eckermann nach Goethes Tod (1832) veröffentlichte.

Dabei kam er darauf, dass zwischen dem Ende der Ilias und dem Anfang der Äneis noch ein episches Gedicht inneliegt.
