Jim Newton, a longtime editor reporter, editor, columnist, bureau chief and editorial page editor of the Los Angeles Times, now teaches at UCLA and edits Blueprint magazine. He is the author of three critically acclaimed biographies -- of Earl Warren, Dwight Eisenhower and Jerry Brown -- and collaborator with Leon Panetta on the former CIA director and Secretary of Defense's memoir. His biography of Jerry Garcia -- with its interwoven history of the 1960s counterculture -- is entitled “Here Beside the Rising Tide.” It will be released by Random House on August 5, 2025.
