Author Joe Cuhaj is a Navy veteran and former radio broadcaster turned author. He writes in various genres, most notably outdoor recreation and nonfiction history.

His passion for hiking and backpacking combined with his love of writing led him to author his first book, "Hiking Alabama," published by Globe Pequot Press in 2000. Since that time, Joe has authored 13 outdoor guides to the state and the Gulf Coast.

His love of history afforded him the chance to write nine nonfiction history books including five that dig into the rich history of Alabama and the state's 320+ year old port city, Mobile. He has also the authored three space and American history books for Prometheus Books - "Space Oddities: Forgotten Stories of Mankind's Exploration of Space," "Everyone's Gone to the Moon: July 1969, Life on Earth, and the Epic Voyage of Apollo 11," and "The Pig War and the Pelican Girls."

Joe's latest book (pub date June 15, 2027) is a detailed history about the women who worked in the shadows but helped humanity reach for the stars: "The Sky is Not the Limit: The Unsung Women of the Space Race," published by Turner Publishing.

Putting his radio career to use, Joe has produced a humorous podcast of stories about growing up, "Joe Cuhaj’s Shorts," and is now bringing the little known history of Mobile, Alabama to life in a new series, "Meanwhile...Mobile."
