J.R. Dos Santos wurde am 1. April 1964 in Beira, Mosambik, geboren. Er ist als Journalist, Universitätsprofessor und Nachrichtensprecher tätig und wurde 2016 von 28.000 Lesern zum "Besten Autor Portugals" gewählt. "The Wrath of God" wurde 2009 mit dem Porto Literary Club Award und "The Devil’s Hand" 2012 vom Portal de Literatura als bester Roman ausgezeichnet. "Codex 632" und "The Einstein Enigma" waren 2010 und 2012 für den IMPAC Dublin Literary Award nominiert. Auch für seine journalistischen Tätigkeiten wurde J.R. Dos Santos mehrfach geehrt, unter anderem für seine Reportage "Albania Bunkers" und für sein Gesamtwerk mit dem Contributor Achievement Award (2000), der im Fernsehjournalismus dem Pulitzer-Preis gleichwertig ist.
