Liz was born in Dublin in October 1967, where she now lives. She has written successfully for soap opera, radio drama, television plays, short stories and animation for children.
All six of Liz Nugent's books have been award winning number 1 bestsellers: Unravelling Oliver, Lying in Wait, Skin Deep, Little Cruelties and Strange Sally Diamond.
Liz was the winner of the inaugural Jack Harte Bursary in Dec 2014. Liz was Writer in Residence at the Princess Grace Library in Monaco in Sept 2016. She was the Irish Woman of the Year in Literature in 2017, and again in 2023.
She was honoured to be the winner of the James Joyce Medal for Literature in 2021. Strange Sally Diamond made the shortlist for the Theakstons Old Peculiar Crime Novel of the Year in 2024.
Liz's books have been translated into 35 languages across over 40 countries.
Most recently The Truth About Ruby Cooper has spent 7 weeks at number 1 in the Irish Bestseller charts and sixteen weeks in the top ten. It will be published in Canada on 25th August 2026 and the USA on 25th January 2027.
Aside from writing, Liz has led workshops in writing drama for broadcast, she has produced and managed literary salons and curated literary strands of Arts Festivals. She regularly does public interviews and panel discussions on all aspects of her writing. She has also interviewed several of her literary heroes including Ian Rankin, Jane Harper, Val McDermid, Marian Keyes, Graham Norton, Joseph O'Connor, Jane Casey, Shari Lapena and AJ Finn.
