Born in northeast Tennessee and raised in southwest Virginia, Lonormi Manuel has called Kentucky home for over thirty years. She celebrates her Appalachian culture in her writing, with short fiction and creative nonfiction works published in Roanoke Review, Still: The Journal, Wraparound South, and more. Lonormi has a M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Southern New Hampshire University, and is currently an adjunct professor in the Humanities for the Kentucky Community and Technical College System. Her first novel, THE PRICE OF BREAD AND SHOES, is set in the coalfields of West Virginia during the 1920s. A sequel to that novel, THE ROAD TO THE CITY OF REFUGE, is her current project.
