Michael used to be a successful newspaper editor; now he writes fiction. Some might say that's not a huge leap but that might be a bit rude. The first three novels in his cosy crime series – Murder by the Book, A Game of Murder and From Murder With Love – are published by HarperCollins division One More Chapter. Before that, he completed Desmond Bagley’s thriller Domino Island for posthumous publication and wrote two sequels, Outback and Thin Ice. But he's not just a novelist. Oh no. His debut play Rasputin’s Mother won the Ronald Duncan playwriting prize and he's since written The Seagull Has Landed (Power Plays festival winner), MacHamLear (UK tour), Reality (Royal & Derngate) and the book and lyrics for Tess – The Musical (workshopped at the RSC). And as if that wasn't showy-offy enough, he’s written narrative non-fiction for worldwide television, had short stories and poetry commissioned and published, and contributes regular essays for theatre programmes.
