Mary Jo Ignoffo's passion for history and story-telling has led her to author six books that provide in-depth and original looks at fascinating moments in history. Her biography of Sarah Winchester, Captive of the Labyrinth (2010, 2012, and 2022), dispels the murky mythology that has surrounded the reclusive rifle heiress. La Verdad: A Witness to the Salvadoran Martyrs (2014) fuses oral history interviews with historical commentary to tell the story of a Salvadoran woman whose steadfast commitment to the truth changed history in both El Salvador and the United States. Ignoffo has worked as a college lecturer and a preservation consultant in California, contributing research to state, county, and city historic building surveys. She has been interviewed for film documentaries and podcasts airing in Japan, Europe, and the U.S. Her articles or book reviews have appeared in the San Jose Mercury News, Santa Clara Magazine, The Californian, and California History.
