Mike Signer is an executive, legal advisor, policy strategist, leader, and thinker. The former mayor of Charlottesville, Virginia, he has held senior executive roles in public and privately-held companies, including Airbnb and WillowTree (now TELUS Digital). He has received senior appointments from three Virginia Governors, has held senior roles on three presidential campaigns, was a member of the State Department transition team for President-elect Obama, sat on advisory commissions for the Biden/Harris campaign, and chaired the homeland security transition for Governor-elect Terry McAuliffe. He has written three critically-acclaimed books and essays for the New York Times, The Washington Post, The Atlantic, and Time. He has taught at the University of Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Israel's Reichman University. He has been profiled by NPR, CNN, the New York Times, the Washington Post, and The Guardian and interviewed by Meet the Press, Face the Nation, The Rachel Maddow Show, and NPR’s Morning Edition. He has received awards from organizations including the Anti-Defamation League, the University of California D.C. Alumni Association, the American Society for Yad Vashem, and the Matthew Shepard Foundation. He was recognized by The Forward magazine in its “Forward 50 2018” list of the fifty most influential Jewish leaders in America. He is a Rodel Fellow and Ruderman Family Foundation Executive Fellow. He holds a PhD in political science from the University of California, Berkeley, where he was a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow; a JD from the University of Virginia School of Law; and a BA in politics from Princeton University, where he was a work-study student and graduated magna cum laude. He lives with his family in Virginia.
