Mike Achacoso has spent more than three decades in the oil refining industry, working at facilities around the world with half that time spent in Montana, Wyoming, and Utah — country he came to know intimately, on the ground and from the air. An accomplished pilot, outdoorsman, and lifelong fly-fisherman, he has spent as much time reading mountain weather and river currents as he has reading process boards and pressure gauges.

That dual fluency — industrial precision and the breathtaking beauty of the high country — is the backbone of “Armor Bearer,” his debut thriller. The refinery scenes come from decades of firsthand experience; the Beartooth Mountains come from a lifetime spent in them.

Mike is married and the father of two children, and the bond between a father and the people he’d do anything to protect runs through the heart of this book. He’s already hard at work on his second book in the “Bearer” trilogy — called “Torch Bearer,” which is a book within a book. It dives into a period of time within “Armor Bearer,” told from a different perspective.
