Roland Orzabal is a musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer, best known as a founder, vocalist, and principal songwriter of the influential band Tears for Fears. Born on August 22, 1961, in Portsmouth, England, Orzabal's musical journey began in his teenage years when he formed the band Graduate with childhood friend Curt Smith, which later evolved into Tears for Fears. With their innovative blend of new wave, pop, and rock, Tears for Fears rose to prominence in the 1980s, producing hits like "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" and "Shout" and “Sowing the Seeds of Love.” Orzabal's introspective lyrics and distinctive vocal style have earned him critical acclaim, and his contributions to the music industry continue to resonate with audiences worldwide. His first novel Sex Drugs & Opera (2014) was a humorous insight into the world of a fictional semi-retired popstar and his obsession with opera. Following this, Orzabal added to Tears Fears’ burgeoning repertoire with the highly successful Tipping Point Album (2022). His latest venture is a memoir – an astrological memoir no less - entitled Welcome To Your Life. The book tells the story of his life and Tears For Fears, which are unsurprisingly linked. But what sets the book apart is that it’s an astrological memoir, the first of its kind. Having studied astrology for four decades, Orzabal explains how the movements of the planets have coincided with the triumphs and tragedies of his personal life, and the highs and lows of his career. Sounds hard to believe, doesn’t it? Wait till you read it.
