Sandy Lee bought her first short-term rental at 52, a ski condo in Steamboat Springs. She then bought three more because she loved short-term rentals so much. Those four short-term rentals replaced her income. She could have kept buying. She stopped on purpose. She spent more than 30 years in engineering and construction, ending as SVP of Services and running a private equity division, before buying her first rental. She runs all four herself, across Colorado, Alabama, North Carolina and Texas, in a few hours a week, with more than 350 guest reviews at 99% five-star. Building Joy is the case for owning a few properties you love instead of a portfolio you manage. It is not a book about scaling to forty doors. She has been a guest on the BiggerPockets Real Estate Podcast and BiggerPockets Real Estate Rookie, and teaches new investors through STR JumpStart.
