I’ve spent more than forty years chasing the dream of being a full-time author. Along the way, I’ve collected enough rejection letters to wallpaper a classroom, taught thousands of teenagers who think commas are optional, and published over fifty books that haven’t yet made me rich or famous.

So yes, the title of my memoir How to Fail as an Author is accurate — but here’s the thing: I’m still here. Still writing. Still telling stories about werewolves, haunted houses, cursed lovers, and all the other dark, weird, heartbreaking, hopeful things that keep me up at night.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from a lifetime of chasing the dream, it’s this: you only really fail when you stop. And I don’t stop.

When I’m not writing, I’m usually plotting my escape from the world of principals, managers, and supervisors who’ve been breathing down my neck for decades. That’s where The Lost Pages Bookstore comes in — my dream of creating a place where books, stories, and misfits like me can finally belong.

I write because I can’t not write. I sell books because I believe stories matter. And if you’ve ever rooted for the underdog, I’d be honored if you’d root for me.
