Taeku Lee is a political scientist and specialist on identity, inequality, and democratic politics. His books include Billionaire Backlash (with Pepper Culpepper, Bloomsbury, 2026); Race and Inequality in American Politics (with Zoltan Hajnal and Vincent Hutchings, Cambridge, 2024); Why Americans Don’t Join the Party (with Zoltan Hajnal, Princeton, 2011); Asian American Political Participation (with Jane Junn, S. Karthick Ramakrishnan, Janelle Wong, Russell Sage, 2011); Mobilizing Public Opinion (University of Chicago Press, 2011). At Harvard, Lee is the Bae Family Professor of Government and Faculty Dean of Dunster House. Lee is also Professor Emeritus at the University of California at Berkeley, a Fellow of the American Academy of the Arts and Sciences and member of the 2024 class of Andrew Carnegie Fellows. He is a former President of the American Political Science Association, National Advisory Committee member for the U.S. Census Bureau and has served on numerous academic boards. Born in Masan, Korea, Lee spent his childhood years in rural Malaysia, lower Manhattan, and suburban Michigan. In his free time, he is a crossword enthusiast, tennis junkie, and a diehard Michigan Wolverine, Golden State Warrior and Tottenham Hotspur fan.
