I am currently CEO & President of Colonial Technology Development Company. My experiences span more than 35 YEARS of business and development of medical technologies; including pharmaceutical, medical device, IT, and diagnostic sectors. I serve as Chairman of Life Sciences Research Solutions, Colonial Technology, and am a Board Member of CanDiag, Ogenx, Margin Surgical, and Life Science Research Organization. I spent 14 years working on turnaround situations for public biotechnology companies. As a result, I experienced most problems entrepreneurs encounter. Over my career, I have been fortunate enough to have friends, advisors and mentors to help develop my skills. I started writing for the Examiner and maintaining the Startup Blog as a means of giving back to entrepreneurs in need of assistance. I also wanted to share the firsthand knowledge gained during my interactions with so many companies. I continue to serve as a mentor to entrepreneurs and often coach them in venture competitions. I continue to advise larger institutions and help them with business development and creating new companies. My former positions include President and CEO of Photogen Technologies Inc., IMCOR Pharmaceutical Co., president and founder of InKine Pharmaceutical Company, and president of Heat Biologics. I have raised more than $150 million for various companies over my career. I have authored eight patents, several patent applications, and have 53 scientific publications. As the Director of the Septic Shock Research Program at Naval Medical Research Institute, I was the recipient of several prestigious awards, including, ``Most Significant Scientific Publication'' awards from the Naval Medical Research Institute in 1985 and 1986, and the Civil Service Special Achievement Award in 1986. I received a bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of Notre Dame, a Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina. This was followed by serving for two years as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of South Carolina and University of Michigan. In 2005, I relocated to an area near Charlotte, North Carolina where I currently reside.
