Tony Kent is a thriller writer, a criminal barrister and a former champion boxer who has been acclaimed as 'the British David Baldacci'. He writes the bestselling Joe Dempsey / Michael Devlin series of political and legal action thrillers which began in 2018 with 'Killer Intent' and continued in 2019 with 'Marked For Death', in 2020 with 'Power Play' and again in 2021 with 'No Way To Die' The fifth book in the series - 'The Shadow Network', a bang up-to-date, torn from the news Dempsey and Devlin thriller set across Europe and the US and featuring the threat of Russian Intelligence and embedded covert assets - was released in hardback and on Kindle and Audible in February 2024, achieving both critical acclaim and bestseller status, with series protagonist Joe Dempsey dubbed 'The British Jack Reacher' by The Sunday Times. In 20-plus years at the criminal Bar Tony has prosecuted and defended in some of the country’s highest-profile criminal trials. He began his career in England’s leading criminal chambers before co-founding a highly-specialised private criminal defence firm, where he focuses on the most serious cases for a client list including politicians, royals, celebrities, sportspeople and other public figures. Throughout his career Tony has dealt not only with the UK government but also with Scotland Yard, the NCA, MI5 and the FBI, as well as some of the UK and Europe’s most notorious organised crime groups. Tony also appears as a legal commentator in Britain's national newspapers, on radio and on television news, as well as being a criminal law specialist on a variety of television programmes including Netflix hits 'My Lover, My Killer' and 'Meet, Marry, Murder'. Before he began his life as a barrister, Tony was a heavyweight boxer who won a host of national and International championships. He brings this unusual combination of experiences and insight to life in his plot-driven, action-heavy series of contemporary and eerily-relevant thrillers. Tony's books have been picked for 'The Richard and Judy Book Club' and 'The Zoe Ball Book Club', with 'Power Play' selected as a 'Thriller of the Month' by The Times newspaper, 'No Way To Die' by The Sunday Times and 'The Shadow Network' by both The Sunday Times and The Daily Mail. In 2023 Tony co-founded and co-organised the inaugural CHILTERN KILLS crime-writing festival in his home town of Gerrards Cross. The one-day event took place on the 7th October 2023 and featured 70 of the biggest name in UK crime fiction, all coming together to help the homeless with the Prince of Wales' flagship charity CentrepointUK. A huge success, Chiltern Kills will return on Oct 5th 2024 at the same location and with a brand new best-selling line-up. Tony lives just outside London in Buckinghamshire with his wife Victoria, their son Joseph and their Jack-Russell terrier Maximus.
