A lifetime addiction to writing and reading has Vella Munn firmly in its grip as witness by her more than 150 contemporary and historical romances. She’s most proud of her 10 book Native American Hearts series. The stories focus on various Indian (sorry about the word) tribes. Romance is part of the plot, but the books also examine life before newcomers altered or destroyed tradition. Vella painstakingly researched the tribes’ lifestyles in her attempt to make the books as honest as possible. A number have won or placed in national awards. Speaking of historical, two of her recent releases Winter Silence and Summer Smoke, are linked historicals in the Gold Camp Dreams series. The romances take place in a California gold camp which mimics the small, remote town where she grew up. Seasons Heartbeat is a contemporary romance series set in a small, isolated mountain resort where heroes and heroines fall in love during the different seasons. As for the setting, Vella’s family owned a cabin near Oregon’s Crater Lake for over 50 years. Bringing location to life was easy. She still misses crisp mornings and mosquito-enhanced sunsets. The ever-growing Challenge The Heart series speaks to her love of small towns, the wilderness, and Alaska’s magic. Next up will probably be a romance set in arid eastern Oregon although a story about rafting the famous Rogue River might come first. There's more to her fiction writing than exploring the journey called falling in love. Hatred of animal abusers led to the three-book Primal Justice thriller series. The books have dark elements but address her desire for justice. She also wrote Grandfather Lost a biography about her grandfather who was killed when her mother was only six. She credits Homer, another writer, with her creativity. Then there’s Whiteout, a man against nature tale. Although no fewer than nine of her romances take place in Montana, Vella lives in rural Oregon, a truly beautiful state. A widow, she has two sons, a daughter-in-law, one grandson, five step-grandchildren, and two under-achieving but demanding rescue dogs. She puts out a monthly newsletter that usually mentions said dogs and tells readers where to look via her website for free offerings.
