ZARA THORNE is the pen-name of DEIRDRE PALMER Thank you so much for visiting my author page. I live in Brighton, on the south coast of England, and most of my books are set in and around the Sussex area. In a previous life, ie, before I followed my lifetime dream of becoming a writer, I worked in public sector administration and management, most recently at the University of Brighton. My family drama, Remarkable Things, was my first serious attempt at writing a full-length novel. While I was writing it, I was lucky enough to be placed fourth in the Mail on Sunday novel competition, the one where you had to write the opening of a novel in a certain number of words. The prize included lunching with such celebrated writers as the late, great Fay Weldon, and my favourite author, Deborah Moggach. The praise, encouragement and friendly advice I received inspired me to finish the book, which went on to be published. Since then I’ve written four psychological thrillers and suspense novels: The Wife’s Revenge, The Girl in the Dark, The Night she Died and Her Best Friend’s Secret, all published by Storm Publishing. I also write feel-good, heart-warming stories with themes of romance, family and friendship under the pen-name ZARA THORNE. The first of these, Christmas at Spindlewood and Coming Home, are published by Bloodhound Books, with A Welcome at Cloud Cottage to follow later this year. My Zara Thorne books are also published by Ulverscroft, available in large-print format from libraries. When I’m not writing, I’ll be reading all kinds of fiction, dabbling with watercolour, and mainlining my favourite TV soaps with a glass of wine and some chocolate treats to hand!
