Publisher's Summary

War hero and daughter to two Houses, Kira is just beginning to learn how deep the rabbit hole goes.

Agreeing to accompany her father's people back to their homeworld, Kira Forrest prepares for the fight of her life. She's agreed to undertake the Trial of the Broken, a rite of passage every member of her father's House must pass. It offers a path to independence and freedom that is too tempting to deny.

Not everyone welcomes this lost daughter of Roake. There are those who fear what her presence might bring to light. Betrayal stalks the halls of Kira's birthplace-its roots embedded deep in the events that claimed her parent's lives and set her on her current path.

Walking the wire's edge between truth and deception will test the person Kira has become as she separates ally from betrayer. An old enemy has put into motion a plan that could topple the balance of power in the universe. Letting them succeed spells doom - but the price might be more than Kira is willing to pay.

On Rotation

I found if I purchase a book AND then the audio book then the author is definitely on the right track. If I listen to said audio book at least once a month then I love it. Read the series... that's all.

great great great!

This was a great book. I love the characters, the development of them and my favorite is Jin. I like the use of Japanese culture in the past to create a fantasy scifi world. it was great, I rarely give 5 stars and have 100's of books in the library. Narrator was great!

creativity and storyline over quality

I REALLY like this series and keep checking for the next installment. I Really like this author and I’ve read her 4 Broken Lands books. I’m getting ready to start on the ebooks of her other 2 main series. I like the author’s creativity and storyline but wouldn’t mind if she got a really good editor so there are fewer gaps in the storyline and odd word choices like sapient instead of sentient. Soudek has grown on me more as default narrator, but still don’t think she was an optimal choice. Especially not when she delivers gibbered with a hard g. It’s supposed to have a soft g like jib.

Love it! My New Favorite SciFi Fantasy Series!

TA White created a marvelous world of fantastical beings and complex characters woven with human nature’s strengths and frailties. She has imbued adventure and conflict with its dual realities of destruction, the pain of survival and joy of redemption. Entwined with humor and danger this book is a gleeful yell into the wind before a glorious leap into imagination. So looking forward to the next installment!

Super Saiyan Space Elves!!!

While the point of view through the eyes of the main character, Kiera, can be incredibly frustrating at times. The over all story is so compelling that i listened to the first and second books back to back, staying up past 24 hours for each book. Lol i might have had a few roid rage moments when i was interrupted. The story structure has a few bumps in it from time to time. Mostly in dealing with terminology. words would be used or concepts would be known, even though the character in question shouldn't have had knowledge of such things at that time. I saw this in the first book far more than this one, but it was still there. Kind of seemed like the author forgot which characters knew things. The biggest thing that i didn't understand throughout both books was how Kiera didn't know what she was. at the time of the series beginning her species had been known for a while and other than her smallish stature she supposedly looks like them. How many other space elves with magic powers are there? Honestly the more this story goes on the more confused about that i got, i mean she is partnered with a seemingly well informed alien You would think it might have come up at some point. Seems it might be something of a plot hole to me. Speaking of things i didn't really understand, Why did it take until the middle of the second book for anyone to actually ask if there were any other survivors beyond Kiera? The Tuon seem rather nonchalant about there being evidence that their missing children might still be alive. Hell when kiera Was asked all she said was that she was the only one in HER camp that was found. And there was zero follow up to it. Perhaps it's just me but i kind of expected there to be more begging for information rather than just a casual question from a single person. Kiera is an amazingly compelling and complicated character. She is loyal, honest, selfless, and honorable. Yet she is also broken, mistrusting, paranoid, and secretive. these two sides can often clash with one another in extremely frustrating ways. Especially her secretiveness. she will burn every bridge there is to keep a secret for a friend. Unfortunately i am increasingly positive that she might not actually have the right to keep such secrets. The last five minutes of this book only reinforced that belief. Honestly you could easily hate this character but i think she skates the edge enough that i would like to see her succeed rather than be crushed by her house of cards. ..most of the time.

I need more!!!!

Firebird Chronicles by T.A. White is an intriguing, action packed space adventure that should be put on your TBR list. The main character, Kira, is complex, damaged, but still loveable. The additional characters add layers to the story and cause more mysteries that need further solving with a sequel. If you're looking for an action packed series with a strong female lead give this a try. Please bring on more in this series!

a must listen to 2nd book in series

The Author and narrator were amazing. I felt a part of the book and story line. It was very well done and I became engrossed in the story to see if Phoenix (Kiera) was able to pass the first test towards becoming a warrior. What that test would be and how it would be connected to her past, present, and future. What makes her so dangerous and special. How Gin became who he is. I listened to this at work and am thankful I work 2nd shift because I became so engrossed that i would burst out in laughter and astonishment at what i was listening to. When writing reviews I normally give comments about the narrator and how success they were at inflections, tones and portraying different different characters. I can only comment about one character. Grady. His voice always seemed menacing and didn't seem to match my mental voice. Other than that I really can't comment because I was too engrossed. There was so much going on and I couldn't put it down. So in a week or two I'll listen to the series again so I can catch what I missed the first time around. I first heard this author a few days ago when I came across this series. This is a galactic series where earth is fighting a war for survival. You will like this series if you liked the Atlantis Grail Series. Lots of action and intrigue that will keep you guessing about parts. Yes, you will be able to guess some but not all. Even when you do guess its great to find out if your were correct. It's great when you have the ahh moments to see if you were right or wrong. Some I was able to guess earlier in the book but not others. Hell the ending surprised the crap out of me and I want to understand where the hell this twist came from it was so well done that i never saw it coming. This is not a sex filled book but awesome none the less. There is a light romance but the plot is not about it. Its about Kiera and her goals. The relationships she has built and why she is who she is. I didn't purchase the eBook with this series, but I will because i want the next addition to the series which won't be out for several months **crying** I can't believe it was 16 and 1/2 hour long because I felt like i just picked it up. I finished book one and had to wait 2 extremely long days till book 2 came out. Once I started listening I couldn't put it down. I put my audible on sleep mode and marked the spot I was at. Then as soon as I woke I went to where I was when sleep mode started and finished the last 4 hours before I had to be at work again. I think this is not a book you can listen to before book one though. There is too much building to really enjoy it if otherwise. I personally think this is well worth the credit i spent and if your out of credits get it anyway.

Great continuation to the story

Another wonderful book in the Firebird Chronicles Series. T.A. White's books never disappoint. This book just came out. I finished it in a day and am now eagerly anticipating the next in the series. I wish all of her books were available on audible. She is such an imaginative and thorough storyteller.

4.5 stars - great book

Loved this book and it was a great addition to the series. Can’t wait for the next one. It lost its way slightly during the end of the trial (towards the end of the book), but not enough for me to mark it down more than half a star. It just got a bit muddled for a little bit, and lost the tight storyline it had otherwise. Hopefully not too long until the next release!

Loved the book and the audio is even better

Kira and Jin continue their adventures. In this day and age, it's hard to find sci fi that has new concepts, great characters, is well written and edited (I'm so sick of childish writing in self published books), a smidgen of romance, and, well basically, is a ripping good yarn. This one ticks all the boxes. I'm hanging out for the next instalment.
