Publisher's Summary

A belligerent springtide!

Being the most powerful wizard in the world can be a challenge....

After defending his fledgling realm against the undead lord Gaja Katar all winter long, Count Minalan of the Magelaw faces a new threat in the spring: the Nemovort Shakathet, favored of Korbal, leading the mighty hordes out of the Penumbra. This time, Minalan faces a real strategist; one who drives his armies with purpose and efficiency. The road to war leads through Megelin Castle and the vulnerable lands to the south of Vanado. Old enemies will become allies, and old friends will become valuable assets.

War, however, is not what is preoccupying Minalan; the knowledge of the end of the world is. As he broods on existential issues and debates with various goddesses and Alka Alon about Calidore’s fate, he must overcome his own fears and anxieties and impose order on the situation before everything goes into the chamber pot.

The solution? Hire an Arcanist, a specialist in the obscure and trivial, to organize and investigate the many matters Minalan has to manage and bring them to order.

great but a few of the chapters are out of place

like the Rest of the series the story was great but around the hidden Castle chapter they bring in the Cat of night with out any contact then go in to finding the hidden cave at the iron hill castle. the book also talk about the cows that haven't been gifted to him yet. then the next chapter bring up the cow goddess so some need to edit the book a bit better.

A season of war and cattle

This book is an in-depth telling of a single war. It is more narrowly focused and descriptive than previous but is definitely a Spellmonger book. (There's humor, goblin-squashing aplenty and even an F-bomb). This book has a darker tone and sense of foreboding. The computer Forseti, the Alka Alon, Prince Tavard, who is the more dangerous enemy and can anyone or anything be trusted? What of the only choice is to work with those who might betray you? The plot moves forward the world building and narrative, revealing secret histories that we have previously guessed at. Storylines that took several books to build up to are cleanly and sometimes hilariously wrapped up. Caswallen the Fox is back and vainglorious as ever, and a joy to behold as even more goblins are reduced to a fine, red mist.

Another fantastic entry in this series!

The worst thing about this book, as with the previous ones, is that I'm left wanting to know what happens next. I can't wait for book 13!

Great Cow March

This, honestly has to be the best book of the series. Terry Mancour has outdone himself with this one. Simply marvelous.

Just can't get enough!

I had forgotten I pre-ordered this one, so was delighted to receive the notification that it was available. Immediately I was drawn back into the Spellmonger's world, full of memorable characters and compelling storylines. As usual, the narration is excellent, with Lee's voice now as comforting as that of an old friend.

My only complaint at the time of writing this review is that I now need to again wait for the next installment!

Amazing depth, occasionally long winded

One of the best series to be hooked into. Great depth of character, an understandable and gradual introduction to the world created produced many delightful tales. Arcanist is a great addition to the saga.
A reader may begin to wonder is there an end to this tale?

a filler book doesn't advance the story just war

if you enjoy war stories you will enjoy this book it does not advance the storyline much if you avoided this book you would this nothing I was dissapointed with how 5his could have been 4 chapters in a great book but money talks and filler books abound. ah well

Nothing new

I’ve loved this series but was a little disappointed truth be told. The story was very predictable with nothing new. I’m starting to feel like it’s just being dragged out so really hope if there’s a book 13 , it includes a few more twists n’ turns or a darn good conclusion- either would be good.

Pure entertainment at its best!!!

What a brilliant addition, this being 12 out of Terry’s planned 30 book saga was lots of fun.
Plenty of court intrigue mixed with epic battles and unexpected twists. Really excited for book 13!

Huge thank you to Terry for another great novel and to John for his performance. There’s a new video on the Spellmonger Face Book page with the pair discussing the series so far, I highly recommend it!

starting to drag out a little

did enjoy it.. but all the characters and storylines seem to be being dragged out to make more and more books. some dialogue seems to be pointless other than to fill 30 minutes.

a solid installment of a great series .

much less emotive than some previous books, I feel characters have been neglected a bit in favour of "getting through" another section of the overall plot.
but great to have more of the ”spellmonger” story, can't wait to see what happens next.

wow. you've done it again.

Another spellbinding spellmonger book. Interesting, New characters. I love the way you give their history to us in small slices. rather than a huge clump. of information. Alia coming back to near her self is great to read. I was worried about her. and the stunt that Bova pulled with the cattle was sheer genius. .To anyone who hasn't read the spellmonger you don't know what your missing. with wars and war wizard. elves, Gurvaney. molopars. sea folk. it's wonderful edge of your seat gripping fun.

A great read .

Good story telling with development of new characters for interest. Found the introduction to each chapter a little annoying but otherwise great.

A story of epic proportions

This series of books holds many great stories of the underdog making it great with lots of magic, politics, scheeming, plotting and war scenes of epic proportions. The book is worth a so called read.... The only minor con I see, is the to list of things that could or would have dire consequences on the world, seem to keep growing but very rarely do you see one of them completed before another one pops up.

The Narrator has a unique style that I initially did not like but it grew on me through book 1, now I would no like to hear anyone else's voice for these characters as each has its own style and inflections.

In this book you will see another war, more betrails, artful majic, a bard of sorts, political plots uncovered, cows, cheese, another god and a mission launched to address some of those pesky world thretting events that I was talking about.

No spoilers here sorry... Read it to find out...
