The practical and inspiring parenting book offering a three-step programme to transform family life and raise responsible, capable, happy children – from an acclaimed psychologist and parenting coach.

Most parenting books focus on changing a child's behaviour, but the truth is that real change only happens when the parent-child relationship shifts.

In Calm Parents, Happy Kids, Dr Laura Markham introduces a positive parenting approach that helps create this shift, eliminating threats, power struggles, and manipulation, in favour of setting limits with empathy and communication.

Published as Peaceful Parent, Happy Kids in the US, this research-led guide draws on the latest findings in brain development and emotional awareness to help you:

  • Stay calm as a parent, even in challenging moments
  • Reduce tantrums, meltdowns and power struggles
  • Set clear, consistent limits without shouting or punishment
  • Build a strong parent-child connection through empathy and communication
  • Support your child’s emotional development and self-regulation
  • Raise confident, self-disciplined and cooperative children

With a simple three-step programme and real-life examples, this book offers proven strategies for managing toddler behaviour, handling big emotions, and creating a more peaceful family life.

Empowering and practical, Calm Parents, Happy Kids is perfect for parents who don’t want to keep their calm, avoid confrontation, and build co-operation with their children.

‘If you want to feel more confident and peaceful as a parent, this is the book.’
Elizabeth Pantley, bestselling author of The No-Cry Sleep Solution

Very nice and practical advice. The examples shared really hit hard and you realise and understand what you should do vs not as a parent.

Great book definitely worth a read

Downloading and listening to this book is the best thing I believe I have done for myself this year. The reader's voice was to me like a relaxing balm for the soul. I am ready to be honest with myself, confront my unresolved issues and to evolve and do whatever it takes to ensure my boys turn out better than me. I find it uncanny the way the author cuts through all the buzz and gets to the core of a very real human issue. I'm just grateful to life to have brought me to this point.

Thank You

Being indian, the knowledge of raising kids is always learnt from our parents and other elders in family. For every small issue we call our parents and inlaws and they always have a solution.

However, today's urban families are posed with different set of challenges. Both parents are typically working, kids have to spend some time at day care centres. And usually their grandparents are staying in some village rather than with them. Parents are tired at the end of the day and have left very less patience.

This books comes as a life saver in this context. It helps us understand how to behave so our children would too. Parenting goes beyond discipline and this book tells us how being calm helps us in long term.

This is the first time I have completed a Parenting book without leaving it half read because it completely resonates practically with all parents.
There are no impractical mantras or messages that you have to execute.
Its just simple, meaningful reflection on behavior and consequence.
Completely recommend it for all parents who want to create a difference in their child's life.

What an amazing Book!
