Sheridan Le Fanus Novelle ist ein Klassiker des Vampirgenres und erschien 1872 sogar noch fünfundzwanzig Jahre vor Bram Stokers "Dracula". Diese Neuerzählung versetzt den Klassiker in die Jetztzeit und beschränkt sich nicht auf den zurückhaltenden Schauer des Originals.
