How can a child vanish without a trace?

Last night, 8-year-old Daisy Mason disappeared from a summer party at her home. No one at the party noticed her leave. Even her parents aren't sure of the last time they saw her. DI Adam Fawley is trying to keep an open mind. But he knows that in nine cases out of ten, it's someone close to the victim.

When a pair of bloody tights is discovered, Fawley's worst suspicions are concerned.

Someone knows where Daisy is.
And her time is running out.

Introducing DI Fawley and his team of Oxford detectives, Close to Home is the first in the new crime series readers and authors are raving about.

Such a rollercoaster ride

This book has been one of the best books I have read for ages. An avid detective/thriller reader I get through so many. Only a few in years do you come across such a great read. This book has everything and is also just the right amount. Some can overdo things , go on or some finish and you say where is the ending. Not this you have a puzzle with twists and turns as you go This is not a straight forward detective who done it and why. You have storie within story and one minute you think it’s part solved it’s just ripped out beneath you and it follows another path. Also as I said deep character stories even in within each side detective and main event. Then twists at the end yet again. This book had me wanting never to put it down and when I wasn’t reading I wish I was. I’m definitely going to hunt out and read everything this author has done. I’m very picky with narration voices too and this was so well chosen and a match made in heaven not just thrown together. Thank you for such a great read I’m sad it had to end.

Real intriguing mystery

I just couldn’t stop listening to this heart stopping heartfelt book. The narration was excellent and the twists turns red herrings numerous! Also the lead detective’s own background was another mystery you were intrigued by. Can’t wait to get another by this author.

What a twist at the end!!!

Story was very engaging, kept me guessing as to who did it.
My only dislike was the constant Twitter references and if I had been reading this book I would have skipped these pages.
The actors reading the story were superb.

Mediocre

Was ok, jumps about quite a bit and the social media bits were annoying. I won't be buying anymore by this author.

excellent

This book kept me returning to listen with great eagerness. Being from the area that the book is set I found it just that much more interesting as I could picture the setting with ease. The book has an interesting and very engaging plot that builds with consistency throughout. Some very good twists within the plot. However I was a bit shocked with the ending. But all in all a most enjoyable listen. The narrators were very easy to listen too however whilst listening I could only picture Endeavour Morse as the narrator sounded so much like him. Maybe it was that plus the Oxford connection that I enjoyed so much?

are you friggin' kidding me

what were the producers thinking?
making us listen to every single html identifier every single time someone says something during an online exchange?
o lordy whose bright idea was it to do that?
let me give you an example of what i just listened to: (not a direct quote but paraphrased near enough)
"online news blog hastag find daisy catherine miller at news at nine fifteen on the fifth of august slash email
poor daisy
online news blog hastag find daisy pete smith at news at nine sixteen on the fifth of august slash email
i know it's terrible
online news blog hastag find daisy catherine miller at news at nine seventeen on the fifth of august slash email

online news blog hastag find daisy pete smith at news at nine eighteen on the fifth of august slash email
it's their fault if you ask me
online news blog hastag find daisy catherine miller at news at nine seventeen on the fifth of august slash email
you can't say that
online news blog hastag find daisy pete smith at news at nine eighteen on the fifth of august slash email
yes i can it's true

you haven't got kids so you don't know
online news blog hastag find daisy pete smith at news at nine twenty on the fifth of august slash email
so what"

and on - and on - and on
what the hell are you guys trying to do - make me run headfirst into a wall?
you're nuts!
and the book was looking so good too - til that bollocks kicked in...

Hard slogg

Omg save me. This book was a hard slogg. Boring story, unlikeable characters, the missing daughter her age didn't match her behaviour. The parts with Facebook's posts were annoying. As for the twist, really.

So many twists and turns!

Just when you think this mystery has been solved - another twist! I felt really sorry for the detectives! The story resolved well because it did explain one fact which was thoroughly annoying me and which was making me feel cranky about the author.

However I agree with another reviewer - the reporting of the social media remarks was terribly annoying and really pretty immaterial to the story. If one was reading the book, one would skim over all the web references. No need for them.

The reading was well done.

I did find that skipping back from the event was a bit confusing, especially since if, like me, you tended to fall asleep - and would then have to scramble to work out where you were up to.

Nevertheless, a good book.

A Real Pager Turner!!!

By far the best crime, detective, police novel I’ve ever read! More twists and turns than I could have imagined but all totally believable once the reader is familiar with the characters. Highly recommend this book.

I liked the book but not the end

Sometimes the British stories plays to a different audience, this one definitely did. If you like the style, you'll love the book. I personally didn't like the social media comments. I will read book 2...

You'll never guess who done it!

I really enjoyed listening to this, thought I had it figured, but no,very clever . Great use of different voices and some truly unpleasant characters. The only thing that I loathed was the 'tweets'. Skipped over them in the end
