Publisher's Summary

A SERIAL KILLER ON A POISONOUS MISSION PUSHES NIKKI AND HER TEAM TO BREAKING POINT

Revellers are flocking into Greenborough for the yearly Dark Greenborough Festival, a three-day event celebrating local folklore, superstition, and the darker side of life.

What the public doesn't know is that there has been a warning sent to the police, saying that Greenborough will be a very dangerous place this year. The anonymous letter ends with the Latin phrase, Mors certa, hora incerta: Death is certain, the hour uncertain.

DI Nikki Galena and her team soon discover this is no hoax, as people start dying from what appears to be alcoholic poisoning. Things rapidly escalate, and as the deaths get more horrific, Nikki realizes they have a serial killer in their midst.

Good ... but,

This series has been severely lagging since they’ve introduced Nikki’s mother.
Her, and her group of old crones are running around like the Snoop Sisters, Jane Marple, and Jessica Fletcher combined.

Anyway .... good story in spite of the subplot.

Enjoyed the narrator and the mystery started well. But it was that tall building: walk down or fall down -- early on hint that
started my collecting "indicators that this would end as an average British Detective Book. I enjoyed the 3 day festival celerating several hundred years of ghosts, ghouls and fresh deaths. I liked he characters but ....

Really poor

This series has run out of gas... couldn’t finish it! Tedious, predictable, simplistic... don’t bother

Darkness on the fens

Joy Ellis came up with another intriguing enjoyable storyline . Narrator's interpretation of local dialect somewhat lacking tho!

Oh dear me

I have read everything Joy Ellis has written in this series so I thought I’d try this on Audible. Wrong choice of narrator thus the narration is awful. More suited to a classic novel than a fens based crime series. Would have put me off reading Joy Ellis if I had listened to this series from book 1, fortunately I read them on Kindle. Such as disappointment as Richard Armitage narrates another of the Joy Ellis series and he is wonderful. Very disappointed but thankfully able to read the book on kindle unlimited.

Stars reflect my experience with this book on Audible but the novel is proving to be a promising read - fingers crossed.

poor narration, buy the paperback instead.

I like Joy Ellis' work but the narration on this is very poor. makes the story difficult to follow and the characters difficult to differentiate between. I dont recomend it.

Poor narrator

Disapppointing - not the usual Joy Ellis standard. And the poor narrator made it much worse.

Happy to hear another chapter

Good to relax with another story, this time one that knits a thread of history into it's premise. I wonder if that kind of thing really happened or just good lateral thinking by the author. Nice work.

I love this series

I have both the e books and the audio books and I have read/listened to them more than once. Nikki is great although she sometimes makes me grit my teeth. She can send people crazy but you would always want her on your side.
Narrator Henrietta Meire was an excellent choice to voice Nikki.
Highly recommended.
