As senior MI6 Officer Kate Henderson arrives for a weekend away in Venice, a Russian spy enters the city with plans to kidnap her....

But it’s not all it seems. The defector offers her conclusive evidence that the British prime minister is a live agent working for Moscow. Kate’s holiday quickly becomes the start of her next mission.

With proof of the PM involved in a sordid scandal and a financial paper trail that undeniably links him to the Russians, the evidence seems bulletproof. But is anything in the dark world of espionage ever that simple?

The motives of the defector are anything but clear and, more worryingly, it seems that there are key people at the heart of the British Establishment who refuse to acknowledge the reality in front of them.

Kate can trust no one, and this mission will push her dangerously close to the edge...but is that the price to pay for the truth?

A good follow up novel with a disappointing ending

I listened to this book in 2 days after listening to the first book last week. It isn’t a stand-alone novel. It was mostly enjoyable, though it did get a bit ropey in places. I didn’t enjoy the ending, it was all too conveniently wrapped up and left me feeling unfulfilled.

Brilliant!

I loved Secret Service and Double Agent didn’t disappoint. Very happy there is a third on the way. Beautifully narrated by Juliet Aubrey. She is always a pleasure to listen to and I think my favourite narrator of all. Great story too.

Intensely Addictive Thriller

I listened to this over two days, finishing it, ironically, during a night of insomnia. The action picks up after 'Secret Service' with more apparent Russian shenanigans seeming to be linked to destabilising the British establishment. In an attempt to sort out the truth of who is who and what is what, as well as why, Kate Henderson, our much put upon Senior MI6 officer must juggle domestic pressures with Whitehall and MI6 politics in a race across Europe to try to save the day. Warmly and expertly read by Juliet Aubrey this is an excellent second novel and I hope the promised third instalment 'Triple Cross' addresses all the remaining unanswered questions. It would also make a cracking Amazon or Netflix series.

Great follow up to Secret Service

So well written, unpredictable plot and the narrators voice is just perfect. So enjoyed both these books and just going to see what else the author has written.

Enjoyable

Excellent story and performance. Keeps you gripped until the end, with many twists and turns along the way.

The presenter is very clear and uses her many voices well.

The story continues

Quite a strange thriller as it was solely concerned with the fallout from events in the first book, Secret Service.
There was enough backstory given to be able to follow what was going on however it was a bit like an extended epilogue.
Given the turn of events, here’s hoping the next book will be a completely fresh story involving some of the established characters (and less time dwelling on the agonies of insomnia).
Criticisms aside, I was glad to see there was more subtle blurring of fact/fiction with a brief mention of ITV News and a real life Trump incident but sadly no appearance by Robert Peston this time.

Complex twisty turny

Story was great and having a female protagonist who is also a mother was interesting. I sometimes found the narration hard to follow, with the male characters. But quite compelling.

awful

The storyline feels like it was composed by a middle-aged house wife and mother, using her daily mind-numbing routine for reference and love for her less-than-ordinary children as the only guide.

I hated this book. I hated the insipid, stupid Mumsey lead. Too many flaws to list.

A brilliant spy sequel ✨

This story (sequel to Secret Service) is a twisting, turning emotional roller coaster. The whole series is first class 👍🏻👍🏻

A really good story...well developed and intrigue

Last book had an abrupt finish but this one had me trying to cram in a few chapters whenever I could, it was gripping.

Wholesome, in that it came from a personal and family angle whilst preserving the edgy intrigue of a spy story.

Didn't want to stop listening

So many twists and turns. Terrific plot. Quite gripping. Such a gutsy protagonist coping in the best way she can. Fabulous narrating.
