Maybe I've been spoiled by the Horus Heresy Novels

Maybe I've been spoiled by the Horus Heresy novels but I found this version of Fabius Bile to be pretty bland. Only one character in this novel was of any interest to me and that was an Iron Warrior who had literally one line of dialogue.

The Slaanesh characters all came across as parodies of their Heresy counterparts. The body horror wasn't really that scary, more like someone had watched Hell Raiser and decided to mash it into 40K. The book had one World Eater character in it and he could just have been any other type of Marine, he wasn't written like a World Eater and wasn't voiced as one.

The main character (other then Bile) is called Oleander Koh and he is very annoying. I think the author was trying to make him the eyes and voice of the audience but he just came across as a nobody who was trying to manipulate characters that were so much more powerful then him.

The voice actor had a too deep voice for my tastes when it came to Slaanesh characters, he did his best but their were several occasions when he didn't swap voices fast enough and the accents (which were very similiar to each other) blended into each other.

I'll never listen to this again and am glad I can get my credit back. Sorry - a hard pass for me.

Vividly Grotesque and Intriguing

Excellent voice acting and narrating. Enthralling story with beautifully vivid imagery. A enjoyable 40k novel delving into the infamous 3rd legion and Fabius Bile.

Excellent

I really loved this trilogy. I think Josh Reynolds is a fantastic writer, especially when he does the darker stuff but that’s just personal preference. John Banks is great as the narrator too. There’s many good characters to get to know and I really liked the location within the Warhammer 40k universe where this is set. It’s a bit like Hellraiser and The Neverending Story combined in that it’s very grim dark but it’s also a very imaginative and creative part of the Warhammer 40k. This trilogy really got my imagination firing and how I felt about some of characters by the end was a little perplexing because of the mixture of good and bad in their characters and personally I liked that. I thought the story telling was fast moving and very interesting and a big thing that I really appreciated was that the characters weren’t stupid, at least, not the ones who weren’t meant to be. I sometimes get a little annoyed with the good guys in some Warhammer stuff for being very “for honor brother” ... “for honor”. Actually, now I think about it, many Warhammer 40k books do my head in a little bit but not these, I thought these were great and I think I maybe a Fabius Bile fan for life because of Josh Reynolds.

Fabulous bile

I got this on a whim, but thoroughly enjoyed it! Bile is a really compelling character. It's really worth a listen!

The best 40k Audiobook and story so far

Was brilliant! Was interesting to see things from a non-imperial view point for a change and happy the chaso marines were shown not to be crazy rambling nutters but very clever and similar to there loyalist counterparts. starting the second in the series straight away!

I loved it. The book itself is well written and the characters were brought to life by John Banks who did good with the narration
