Publisher's Summary

Are you ready to open your imagination to the possibility that God has a vision for your life that is greater?

We all have honest moments when we're gripped by a desire to feel that what we're doing matters more. That who we are matters more.

And according to one of the most shocking verses in the Bible, Jesus wants the very same thing for every one of us:

"Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father." (John 14:12)

That single promise - "even greater things than these" - should be enough to shatter our acceptance of spiritual mediocrity. Unfortunately, most believers have only tried and given up on vague notions of greatness...then settled into a life that's just good enough.

Good enough = Baseline living that is marked by mediocrity, stuck in spiritual survival mode, and controlled by complacency.

Greatness = Vague, unrealistic aspirations of doing better that don't work in real life and lead to endless frustration.

But there is a third way.

Greater = The life-altering understanding that God is ready to accomplish a greatness in your life that is entirely out of human reach - beyond anything you see in yourself on your best day, but exactly what God has seen in you all along.

In Greater, Pastor Steven Furtick draws on the biblical story of Elisha to empower you to:

  • Take a God-given dream from idea to reality
  • Stretch your limited resources and abilities in ways you never thought possible
  • Replace the images of yourself that keep you feeling stuck in the past
  • Make a significant impact with your life starting today, rather than making endless plans for tomorrow that you never get around to

If you're tired of being ordinary, it's time to dream bigger. If you're feeling overwhelmed about where to begin, it's time start smaller. It's time to ignite God's Greater vision for your life.

Critic Reviews

“Writes Steven Furtick, ‘Good enough leaves you stuck in stagnation. Grasping for greatness leads to endless frustration. But greater is a third way.’ My advice? Don’t waste another second to embrace the third way. In Greater, Steven shows you that God’s vision for your life is ready to be ignited. Go ahead - strike the match!” (Jentezen Franklin, senior pastor of Free Chapel, Gainesville, GA, and New York Times best-selling author of Fasting)
“If you ever felt like you were meant for more yet have settled for less in life, then Steven Furtick’s new book, Greater, is for you! Its proven biblical insights and practical applications will put you on your path to the greater life.” (Kerry Shook, senior pastor of Woodlands Church, Houston, TX, and coauthor of the New York Times best-selling One Month to Live and the national best seller Love at Last Sight)
“Most people crave more out of life and sense there is a greater reason for our existence. Pastor Steven’s new book, Greater, is the perfect book to stir your faith, build your spiritual confidence, and inspire you toward the unique calling for your life. If you read only one book this year, make it Greater.” (Craig Groeschel, senior pastor of LifeChurch.tv, Oklahoma City, OK, and author of Soul Detox and Dare to Drop the Pose)

Living Out A Greater Life

I listened to this book over a period of 6 months. Each sectioned I listen to spoke to me in that moment of my life.
We all want to live a greater life than what we are living now. We think it will be greater if we study more, travel more, progress in our job, earn a little more for make more friends.
Steven clearly states that living a greater life isn't about what more you can do. It's about leaving behind those things that hinder us from a greater life and listening to God's truths about us. When we know the truth, we can live out the truth.

Definitely Worth Your Time!!

What did you love best about Greater?

Easy to listen to, simple to understand, inspired me to stay focused.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Greater?

That God is a deity of VERY FEW WORDS...made me laugh in that he pales in comparison to men's 7000 words a day and womens' 20000 words spoken daily. Less is definitely more and made me wonder truly how much of what I say is important. AND that He doesn't give a whole litany of directions; boy can I relate to that!! Also the 4 questions to ask ourselves...not only for a greater calling but for everyday life.

What about Steven Furtick’s performance did you like?

He was easy to listen to, down to earth and simple to follow. His presentation was that of someone who has himself, been challenged with the material he is presenting and helps us to connect the dots.

Any additional comments?

Merits listening to again as a gentle reminder that people complicate things, not GOD...He is of FEW BUT IMPORTANT WORDS.

Greater is just that!!

This is an awesome listen. Mr. Furtick used an uncommon approach to parallel the life of one of the lesser referenced Bible prophets to my life today. I have started this book over already. Great advice!

Life changer

After a tough few days of low points, I text a friend for prayer. She tells me that she had heard in her spirit that she was to send me this book before she had even received my text. How awesome that God was already providing before the need ever arose. This book did NOT disappoint... the perfect dose of God's word. Those few low days were worth it because it led me to this book, which in turn opened my eyes on much more than those mere low days. Thank you, Steven, for pouring God's goodness into my life!

Inspiring

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely. Anyone desiring to take the next step whether in ministry or your relationship with Christ , this is a must read

Who was your favorite character and why?

Elisha his story was inspiring of the ups and down battles that we each face as we attempt to fulfill Gods purposes in our life

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes but in order to really get the most out of it, smaller bites are best so as to digest the information and evaluate your own life in light of what is being taught. I'm going to read it a second time time but am sure it is one I will return to over and over again.

This book came at a much needed time

Greater is not about doing the biggest most profound thing or the smallest, it’s doing exactly that which God has called you for now matter how small, irrelevant or impossible it may seem to us.

Am gonna reread this over and over again, short and sweet , finished in a day or so and loved every second of it, the teaching, the sincerity, transparency and jokes of course.
It wouldn’t be pastor Steven if there were no jokes. Now am going back to read the story of Elisha thoroughly with a new meaning. You would know if this book is for you depending on the season is your life you are in right now.

Inspiring!

In Steven Furtick's trademark humour, candidness and forthrightness, he challenges us all to live lives greater than we are currently living - no matter what our vocation, our family life, or our background. It's not about all that! It's about a vision for what God can do in us and through us, as we dare to believe that He has a greater plan and purpose for our lives, whatever that looks like. We can be used by God, and it begins by taking simple, small steps towards greater things in our everyday lives.
