A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Critic Reviews
Locus Award, Best Novel, 1990
"Dan Simmons has the Midas touch: Every genre he writes - whether SF, horror, mystery, historical, or thriller - he turns to gold. Hyperion and The Fall Of Hyperion set a new standard for grand-scale science fiction." (Kevin J. Anderson, author of The Saga of Seven Suns)
"Dan Simmons was a star from the outset. It was the Hyperion books that made him a superstar. The man, quite simply, is what we in the trade call a writer's writer." (Mike Resnick, Hugo and Nebula Award-winning author)
Each of [the pilgrim's] stories would make a superb novella on its own. ( The New York Times Book Review, Gerald Jonas)

Nice story structure; not equally good
Loved the story telling structure that divides the point of view between the pilgrims. Holistically, the story is captivating, but not all parts are good--as is going to happen.
Brilliant narration by all, and occasional use of music adds to the mystique of the Hyperion world.

Beautifully done
I picked up the Audiobook after a vague memory of reading this book a long time ago and enjoyed it. The narration is well done, you can feel each character through their voices. Hyperion, I feel, is going to remain on my list of all time favourites

Highly recommended
For patient listeners, the story is a treat! The character build up with intertwined story lines that illustrate and employ environmental, technological, ethical, socio-political and economical with felicitous language make it fantastic! I’m surprised it hasn’t been taken up TV/movie studios to great effect.

Great book and good narration.
Why it says writing review is optional and then requires minimum 15 words? The book is great scifi and narration is good.
