About this listen

On October 6, 1973, Ted Simon knew there was no going back. He loaded up his 500cc Triumph Tiger in the pouring rain and said good-bye to London.

Over four years he rode 64,000 miles round the world. Breakdowns, revolutions, war, a spell in prison, and a Californian commune were all part of his experience, which was colored variously by utter despair and unimaginable joy. He was treated as a spy, a god, a welcome stranger, and a curiosity. The extraordinary trip became a journey into his own soul, and for many others - including the bikers Charley Boorman and Ewan McGregor - it is a pure inspiration. Rupert Degas, "the most versatile of narrators" (The Times), captures all the thrills and spills of Simon's experience and the timeless charm.

It’s not just a travelogue of going around the globe on a motorcycle but going through different lives in a fast forward mode enabled by the motorcycle. The account of not just what passes by around the author is important but also what goes on inside him - and not just just the arduous struggle of the machine but also the man.
Worth a read / hear - even if you don’t care about the bike.
Very well written & very well recited.

Circumnavigating a life & not just the globe !

What an amazing book. Both Ted Simon's journey and his storytelling combined with Rupert Degas' voice narrative. Amazing! I was in tears towards the end. Fabulous and will be relevant many generations from today.

Must say it was one of the best travelogs I have ever read. A fast read, Ted Simon takes the reader along in his journey across the world. Some instances makes us feel as if we are present there and watching Ted enacting a role. Mixed with fun, sadness, anger, difficulties and hope, Ted Simon's account is a must read for biking and traveling enthusiasts. It is also a guide on how to enjoy and experience a new country and culture without being judgemental. Narration of the audio book is great with right emotions and accents wherever suited.

An unparalleled, epic account of a great traveler
