Publisher's Summary

A Horus Heresy: Primarchs novel

Few among the legendary primarchs are as feared as Konrad Curze, the Night Haunter. Even before his fall to darkness, he was a sinister legend, a remorseless killer. This is his story.

Listen to it because:

The Night Haunter is a fascinating character, a man who could have been a hero, but for the daemons that plague him, the result of his nightmarish visions of a future he helps to create. Guy Haley delves into this lord of the night, in a story you'll never forget…

The story:

Of all the Emperor’s immortal sons, the primarchs, it is Konrad Curze whose legend is the darkest. Born in the shadows of Nostramo, a world of murderers, thieves and worse, is it any surprise that he became the figure of dread known only as the Night Haunter? Heed now the tragic story of the creature Konrad Curze, master of the Night Lords Legion, of how he became a monster and a weapon of terror. He who once served the Imperium saw the truth in a maddening universe and the hypocrisy of a loveless father, and embraced the only thing that made any sense - darkness. From the blood-soaked gutters of his hiveworld upbringing, to the last days of his ill-fated existence, Curze is a primarch like no other and his tale is one to chill the very bone....

Chilling! An Amazing Listen

Jonathan Keeble has been nothing short of awesome in other books but how he brings the Night Haunter to life is just 'makes your blood run cold' chilling. Guy Haley really deilvered too.

keeble's best choice acting

he perfectly portrays the madness with curze so well and truly takes this book to a point that it feels like you're going down the rabbit hole along side the night haunter yourself

Everything I wanted it to be...

I stood and clapped at the end. I reserve that for really great writing and equally impressive voice acting. I'm giving it a second listen tomorrow. Well worth the meager fee or credit as this is sincerely a few hours of quality mind vacation.

Excellent!

As usual, Keeble was phenomenal. As usual, Haley conducted a well connected and epic story. Very much enjoyed.

Words fail me

I cannot begin to describe how much I enjoyed this book. This adds so much depth to one of the most complex and truly interesting characters of 40K lore. Konrad is by far one of the best characters.

Couldn't put it down. Outstanding narration.

A mortifying but brilliant take on Curze's final hours, narrated to perfection by Jonathan Keeble.

Finally a good story for Curze

This was a great book to listen to as it offered a lot of insight into events hinted at and left alone. Contains a couple visits from some of my long time favorites in the Night Lords Chapter.

Shut it Kurze!

Finally, Harley has fleshed out the Night Haunter and given him the epic he deserves. Here, Kurze is a tragic, complex figure who deserves understanding and yet there's no misguided attempt to evoke pity. It's a difficult needle to thread but Haley does it with finesse. Various threads of Kurze's life are examined and woven into a fabulous tale, and there is indeed one hell of ending. Credit also to Jonathan Keeble who is the only voice that does the Heresy series justice.

Buy with a credit or at full price. Its one of those rare books you'll never regret the asking price

My first (40k) audio book, couldn’t get enough of it! A culmination of horror and philosophy written with unique structure. Narration is compelling and of high quality. Don’t let chapter 2 put you off 😉 thoroughly enjoyed throughout, would highly recommend!

Fantastic decent into unraveled sanity

Konrad Curze's madness is front and center throughout the book. Having the irrational rationalized though sheer force of will and indomitable bullishness of the mad Primarch is mesmerising.

The purity of madness

People think they know the mind of Konrad Curze, the Nighthaunter of Nostramo but oh my they haven't even scratched the surface.

From his beginnings as the monster stalking the streets to his inevitable famous death we see a different side to this broken mind.

You'll laugh and shudder through this book as parts are revealed to, arguably the worst Primarch, we have never seen. Truly one of the best Primarch novels to date and it's for a traitor to boot! Jonathan Keeble outshines himself once again adding the polish we would expect from his skill.

Surprisingly good

In general I've found black library audio books to be a bit hit or miss for my tastes. You get excellent books such as the Eisenhorn Trilogy and Spear of the Emperor mixed in with average/mediocre books such as Warlord: Fury of the God-Machine and The Beasts Arises series.

This book easily sits is in the excellent end.

The Pros
Excellent narration and sound effects, I really got a feel for how fickle/mad Konrad Curze was
Interesting story of how/why Konrad became what he was
Good pacing

The Cons
Its short
Prior knowledge of the 40k background and Night Lords Chapter fills out the novel

Overall, if you are a big fan of the Night Lords chapter and its primarch this may be a buy for you at its normal price, for me and more casual 40k listeners I would recommend waiting for a 241 sale and using a credit, for those without any or much prior 40k knowledge you could skip this as it it quite short.

changed my opinion of Konrad!

this book is beautiful, if you haven't already , read/listen to the soul hunter trilogy and then this one, but hands down one of my favourite books of one of my new favourite primarchs.

you genuinely begin to feel empathy despite his twisted nature , and although I cant give spoilers , the story of how he came to exist in his pit of despair is brought to life brilliantly by keeble!

A disturbing but brilliant story

Guy Haley has done an excellent job realising the motives and forces that shaped the Night Haunter. From talking to others, it seems the story still invokes feeling in some of the inevitability of his fall, while in others it invokes a feeling of missed opportunity. And for this Primarch it is not only fitting, but astonishingly difficult to achieve while keeping the Nighthaunter as the protagonist. Bloody well done!

A great look into the mind of Konrad Curze.

A macabre and dark look into the nature of fate through the lens of Konrad Curze, the night haunters ability to catch glimpses of the future.

With an exceptional framing device that brings the story to life. Very cleverly used.

Well recommended.
