Linguistics as a whole is a vast and myriad area which this book by P H Matthews fails to deliver. Many topics in the book are presented without explaining about them which would leave anyone grasping for a clue. I was able to understand as I have done my postgrad degree in Linguistics. There are far better books than this to understand and learn about Linguistics.
