Schreitl steht schon im Zimmer, neben dem kleinen Teppich, als Pollack den Telefonhörer auf den Apparat fallen lässt. Er lässt ihn wirklich fallen. „Das ist vielleicht eine Verbindung“, regt sich Pollack auf. „Da sitzt der Doktor zwei Stockwerke unter mir, im gleichen Haus, und ich versteh ihn so schlecht, als ob ich nach Tunesien telefonieren würde.“ „Was hat er gesagt?“, fragt Schreitl. „Du wirst staunen“, sagt Pollack. „Die Clanek ist erwürgt worden.“ „Ja“, sagt Schreitl. „Das hab ich ja selber gesehen.“ „Moment“, sagt Pollack langsam. „Moment. Jetzt kommt es erst. Die Clanek hat kurz vor ihrem Tod noch Geschlechtsverkehr gehabt.“ Jetzt grinst der Polizeileutnant. „Die alte Dame?“, staunt Schreitl. „Frau“, sagt Pollack.
