 第2次大戦後まもなく、現地住民虐殺の戦犯としてシンガポールで処刑された水島団。

それから30年の時を経て、兄の水島譲は弟が辿った死までの道のりを追体験してみようと、旅に出る。タイ・バンコクからマレー半島を列車と車で南下し、一路シンガポールへ。

かつて虐殺があった事件現場や団が刑死したチャンギ刑務所、そして墓地と、弟ゆかりの地を訪ねていくうち、事件の意外な真相が明らかになる。戦争を題材に、人間の生と死の意味を問う意欲作。
